From first time climbers to more experienced climbers looking to refresh their skills, this course covers it all!

The day starts in our office in downtown North Conway.  There you will meet your guide, who will go over some expectations for the day and help you set some attainable goals for yourself.  Then it's gear time!  All the technical gear you need for the day is included in your booking.  Your guide will make sure you are comfortably fitted with boots, harnesses, and helmets and go over some basics of their use.  Before you head out we will triple check that everyone is prepared for a day out in the elements.

Once at the trailhead, your lesson will start before we even reach the crag.  Some of best climbing spots take a little bit of hiking to get to.  Your guide will go over putting on your crampons and how to move efficiently with them up to the ice.  At the ice, it's time to put on the harness and go vertical.  With a focus on proper technique, your guide will walk you through good footwork and tool placement.  Let our guides show you how to read the ice and feel comfortable on the rope.  The rest of the day will be spent climbing and belaying as you build confidence on the ice.

The typical Intro to Ice day will be comprised of top roping ice of varying steepness and difficulties based on the group's climbing experience.  Be sure to let your guide know if this isn't your first time for some more challenging climbs.

The most important thing is having fun.  You can trust the Eastern Mountain Sports Schools to provide the best experience possible!

*Open Enrollment is limited to 12 participants and locks one week prior to the trip date. If trying to book large groups or see our last minute availability please reach out to Schools@ems.com.
